If you've been shopping around for a possible greenhouse for your own home or yard, your eye may have been drawn to some beautiful wooden greenhouses.
These structures are often the most aesthetically pleasing of all the models of greenhouses there are, and many people choose them because they look so very beautiful. There are even lean-to greenhouses, those that are meant to be attached to an exterior wall of your home or garage, that are made of wood that is specifically designed to match your home's exterior. But while wooden greenhouses may look just about the best of any of your options, there are some things to consider before you purchase.
For one, wooden greenhouses may be made of pressure treated lumber or may have a waterproof coating, but this doesn't mean they'll last forever.
Some have problems with structures made of wood as they tend to rot after ten years or so. This isn't always the case but is more typical in very humid environments. If you live in an area with high humidity you may want to reconsider any of your choices when it comes to wooden greenhouses.
While you may have had your heart set on this material or a particular design, it's going to be a waste of your money if you need to replace it in ten years.
It also seems to be true that wooden greenhouses don't stand up to extreme environments and weather conditions the way other materials do
They're more prone to breakage in very high winds. Again, this isn't always true but for smaller structures it's possible for them to break during rough weather. You may notice that a pane or two is snapped or twisted if your area has gone through some pretty severe weather.
Of course, no greenhouse is impervious to damage in extreme circumstances but it seems to be true that wooden greenhouses are just more delicate than those made of another material.
There are those however that have chosen from all the beautiful designs of wooden greenhouses and report being very happy with their purchase. They feel that the wood makes their greenhouse more welcoming and inviting and take the time to decorate the outside of the structure with potted plants or landscaping to really enhance it as much as possible.
If you're looking for the most aesthetic appeal for your structure then perhaps one of those wooden greenhouses would be the best choice for you.
Many purchase structures that are large enough to treat like a sunroom and put a few reclining patio chairs in their greenhouse; this can be a nice place to relax on a summer afternoon as you're out of the elements but are still nice and toasty warm.
If you're thinking of using your greenhouse as an actual retreat or extra room then of course wooden greenhouses make for the best choice. But whatever your final decision, remember that any greenhouse is going to be a beautiful option for years to come.
